When abuse occurs, the person being abused often feels trapped and without hope, caught between conflicting feelings. STAND!'s Intervention Services are a path to safety and dignity for many. These include our 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional housing for women and families, legal support and much more.

Crisis Hotline

Emergency Shelter

Women and families fleeing violence find refuge in STAND!'s Rollie Mullen Center (RMC), a 6-building complex containing our 24-bed emergency shelter, kitchen, dining and family rooms, counseling center, and crisis line. RMC is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. Residents also have access to our First 5 funded Therapeutic Child Care.

During 2008-09, STAND!'s emergency shelter served 88 women and 97 children for a total of 7,310 bed nights.

Transitional Housing

Shelter clients and others who choose to start a new life can stay in STAND!'s transitional housing program. The program houses up to 9 families, 4 single women, and 22 children at the Rollie Mullen Center for up to 18 months.

During 2008-2009, STAND!'s transitional housing prgram served 11 women and 21 children for a total of 3,934 bed nights.

Emergency Response Team

When abuse happens, help is on the way. STAND! provides immediate, in-person or on the phone assistance to clients in crisis by trained staff and volunteers. ERT is available 24 hours a day to meet clients at the hospital or local police department and provide services.

Legal Support

STAND! provides assistance to people who are abused through the criminal justice system with advocacy and accompaniment. In collaboration with Bay Area Legal Aid, STAND! offers Protective and Restraining Orders clinics throughout Contra Costa County.

During 2008-2009, 267 clients were given legal advice and support.

Peer Counseling/Advocacy

Trained STAND! therapists, staff and volunteers facilitate group and individual counseling for people experiencing domestic violence. They listen, support and offer options and advice to help people stay safe and to heal.
